Tachograph requirement from 2,500 kg: this is what changes from 1 July 2026

Mandatory tachograph from 1 July 2026 — is your van already sorted?

From 1 July 2026 European legislation for company cars is changing. The tachograph obligation is being extended to vehicles from 2.500 kg transporting goods internationally. This means that many companies driving vans across borders will soon be required to have a Smart Tachograph 2 must use.

For many businesses, this change has a direct impact. Anyone who is not compliant in time risks fines, downtime and administrative problems.

Does this also apply to your vehicle?

These regulations apply to:

  • Vans (such as Sprinters)
  • International transport
  • Vehicles with a maximum mass > 2.5 tonnes
  • Including trailers or semi-trailers

Still unsure if your vehicle falls under this? Then it's important to have this checked now.
